Why I hate St Valentine’s Day

So it’s here again.

Why?

This cultural eyesore is extremely offensive. If you’re single, it serves to be an unavoidable reminder; your loneliness turns to anger at the injustice, or you feel depressed because it feeds into your fear of being unlovable.

And if you’re in a relationship, you’re expected to do special things. For the life of me I cannot understand the purpose. You have your anniversary to celebrate your relationship; if that’s not enough romance (which in my opinion it’s not) then be more romantic anyway. You don’t need an additional special day for it. I find the idea that I’m not being romantic enough quite offensive, and I don’t need a reminder to express my love.

Have some respect for the single people in your life, and don’t ram today down their throats.

But to quote Dennis Miller, “That’s just my opinion; I could be wrong.”
